SAEN is being implemented by Punjab State Biotech Corporation as Lead Agency with National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing and BIONEST-PU as the Partner Institutes.
The institute was established in 2010 with the aim of catalyzing the transformation of Agri-food sector in India. The institute serves a s a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translation science leading to value added products based on agri-food biotech innovations. The main research focus of NABI is to harness biotechnology tools in the area of Agriculture Biotechnology, Food and Nutritional Biotechnology so as to provide sustainable and novel solutions for quality foods and nutrition. Research activities at NABI include:
I. Agriculture Biotechnology,
II. Food and Nutritional biotechnology
III. Human Resource Development
IV. Technology Transfer and Outreach
The institute has developed strong linkages with National and International Organization and Industries' and is a part of agri-food cluster in the knowledge city of Mohali along with its neighboring institutes.
An autonomous institute of the department of biotechnology, Govt. of India, working with the mandate of testing, scale-up & process optimization of technologies in agri-food sector. Its R&D programs include
I. Value addition to primary processing residue/waste for edible products
II. Valorization of crop wastes for specialty products and chemicals
III. Nutritionals, nutraceuticals and up gradation of value or use of primary processing bioproducts and
IV. Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high value products and industrial enzymes.
